Hands-On Training

You will have access to a mentor in person and online. Our mentor is an experienced business broker, with years in the industry. 

The mentor can provide guidance and support as the student learns the ropes. This could involve shadowing the mentor, working on real-world projects, or simply asking questions and getting feedback.

What Will You Learn?

  • Valuing businesses: Students would learn how to value businesses using different methods, such as asset-based valuation, discounted cash flow analysis, and comparable sales analysis. They would practice valuing businesses by working on case studies or by valuing businesses that are actually for sale.

  • Analyzing financial statements: Students would learn how to analyze the financial statements of businesses, such as the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement. They would practice analyzing financial statements by working on case studies or by analyzing the financial statements of businesses that are actually for sale.​
     

  • Marketing and selling businesses: Students would learn how to market and sell businesses, including how to develop a marketing plan, find potential buyers, and negotiate the sale price. They would practice marketing and selling businesses by working on case studies or by helping to market and sell businesses that are actually for sale.

  • Legal and regulatory issues: Students would learn about the legal and regulatory issues involved in selling a business, such as the disclosure requirements and the closing process. They would practice dealing with legal and regulatory issues by working on case studies or by helping to close the sale of a business.​​
     

  • Ethics and professional standards: Students would learn about the ethical and professional standards that apply to business brokers, such as confidentiality and conflict of interest. They would practice applying ethical and professional standards by working on case studies or by participating in role-playing exercises.

How?

  • Internship: Students may have the opportunity to intern with a business broker. This would give them the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the field.
     

  • Mentorship: Students may be paired with a mentor who is an experienced business broker. The mentor can provide guidance and support to the student.
     

  • Practicum: Students may participate in a practicum where they work on a real-world business brokerage project. This would give them the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting.

  • Shadowing the mentor: The mentee would shadow the mentor as they perform their day-to-day tasks. This would give the mentee a firsthand look at the business brokerage process.
     

  • Participating in marketing activities: The mentee would participate in marketing activities, such as networking, attending industry events, and creating marketing materials.
     

  • Working on real-world projects: The mentee would work on real-world projects, such as valuing businesses, marketing businesses for sale, or negotiating the sale of businesses.
     

  • Getting feedback: The mentee would get feedback from the mentor on their work and progress.
